Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
about FDP

  1. Which e-mail program works best?

FDP has been tested with Netscape 4.x and Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0. Netscape works best for sending, Outlook works best for receiving.

You can also use copy and paste to send Diacritical text using Yahoo Mail and Hotmail. See E-mail and FDP in the FDP Help System (press F1) for more information.

If anyone has the programming details of how to build an in-line HTML MAPI message for Outlook, please e-mail me at leighb@alamedanet.net.

  2. Does FDP e-mail work with AOL, Eudora, Juno, etc.?

I don't know about AOL or Eudora - if you find out, please e-mail me at leighb@alamedanet.net so I can document it here. The free version of Juno does not handle attachments (the last time I checked). so it is NOT supported.

  3. After installing TDP or a program from the Tibetan Computer Company, FDP is no longer the default program for DCT/DCP/DBT/DBP files. How can I make FDP once again the default for these files?

Click on Options / Restore Registry Entries in the FDP menu.

  4. How do I send a FAX?

You need to have a FAX modem and standard Windows FAXing software installed on your system. This kind of software often comes with Windows - check in Start/Programs/Accessories. Or you can install a 3rd party FAX package. Once the package is installed, it will appear to most programs, including FDP, as a printer. To send a FAX in FDP, click the File/PrintSetup menu item and then click the Printer button and select your FAX program in the combo box of the screen that appears. Then use the File/Print menu item to print the document and use your FAX software to send it.

  5. Is there an Apple Macintosh version of FDP?

It is highly unlikely that FDP will ever be ported to the MAC. However, if you have a version of the MAC that can successfully run Win/95 or Win/98 (as opposed to Win 3.1) programs, FDP will run just fine. If you run Connectix Virtual PC 5.0 for Win/95 or Win/98 from Connectix Corporation, FDP will install and run with no problems. However Connectix Virtual PC 5.0 costs about $US200.

  6. Will there be a Linux or Unix version of FDP?

FDP may be ported to Linux at some future time. If someone ever comes up with support for the Win32 API in Linux, I would love to try that port.

Update 4 Sept' 02: One of the users of FDP writes "I was able to load FDP under Wine in Linux. I have the latest version of Wine, and after jumping through a couple of hoops with the fonts, I was able to install and run it." This may be something you might also try.
