ELECTED OFFICE ~ six years as an elected school board representative Alameda Unified School District Board of Education. Elected November 2002, Re-elected November 2006 o While serving as Board President in 1996 I led the recruitment of Ardella Daily as the Superintendent, and the opening of Ruby Bridges Elementary School - the first new school in Alameda in over 20 years. o Led the School Board and the District to the development of a comprehensive Wellness Policy to support and encourage healthy eating and physical activity at all school sites. o School Board representative to the Alameda Hospital Strategic Planning Committee, City Council ~ School Board Planning Committee, Alameda Recycling Coalition, and Alameda County/City of Alameda Youth Task Force. EXPERIENCE ~ various positions in local, state and federal government since 1992 City of Oakland ~ Senior Services Administrator. Hired July 2000. o Division Director and part of the Department executive management team. o Manage 14 staff at four Oakland senior center facilities, up to 15 grants and an annual budget of more than $2 million. o Report to the City Council as necessary and city Attorney. Prepare and present program reports to the City Administrator and City Council. o Work modified 80% (30 hour week) schedule so I have time to research School Board issues and spend with my family. November 1992 - February 2000. o Worked in Vice President Al Gore's Offic in 1998 and 1999 as a member of the National Partnership for Reinventing Government addressing health insurance and children's health issues. o Received Secretary Donna Shalala's Distinguished Service Award for my role in implementing the 1997 Balanced Budget Act. o Represented the Department of Health and Human Services on the intergovernmental team that drafted the Health Care Security Act of 1996 to establish a national health care program. o Author/co-author of several Federal health care regulations (authored two Medicare regulations published in the Federal Register in 1994 and 1995) Research Analyst. December 1992 to June 1992. o Legislative staff to the Maryland General Assembly health care committee during the 1992 Legislative Session. o Represented the Committee Chair to health care industry representatives, advocacy groups and various constituencies. o Analyzed health policy issues, drafted and presented reports, and conducted independent research on health care issues.
