“Gil Don’t Go” Urges Warriors Fans to Show
Point Guard Gilbert Arenas the Money -- and the Love

Alameda, CA, April 7, 2003—Gil Don’t Go announces the kick-off of an energetic grassroots campaign, urging Warriors fans to send star point guard Gilbert Arenas anywhere from $1 to $10 as a small, symbolic gesture of appreciation. Still, says Gil Don't Go president Dan Brodnitz, "This really isn't about showing Gil the money—it’s about showing him the love.”

In the summer of 2003, Arenas will likely be faced with a critical career choice—take less money (at least for one year) and stay with the promising young team he’s helping build here in the Bay Area, or score a bigger payday by leaving town.

Having suffered through several consecutive years in the NBA basement, Gil Don't Go asks Warriors fans (rhetorically): “If not now, when? If not Gil, who?”

The group's web site, GilDontGo.com, features a series of family friendly myths and legends regarding Gilbert Arenas, including: “Gilbert Arenas: God of Thunder,” and “Gilbert Arenas and His Blue Ox, Babe.”

The organization’s theme song, a stirring tune entitled “The Ballad of Gil Don’t Go,” is available for twenty-four hour inspiration on GilDontGo.com as a free, downloadable 980K .mp3. It’s got a good beat, and you can dance to it, sorta. (Also: the lyrics artfully rhyme “Colorado” with “a lotta dough”—no mean feat.)

Gil Don’t Go is an independent, non-profit effort, entirely unaffiliated with the NBA or the Golden State Warriors. And although it may seem and sound like a goof, Gil Don’t Go is actually quite serious about this modest proposal, as a small way for fans to help show Arenas how much they've appreciated his efforts all season long.

Gil Don’t Go also encourages all fans to visit StayGilbert.com and sign their growing "Stay Gilbert" petition—already 3,500+ strong!
